The time signature (the two big numbers on the left) in the rhythm below shows us that there are six beats in a
measure and the eighth note gets the beat. Listen to the rhythm by clicking on the large note. Clap and count this rhythm. Slap your leg as you say each number.
You will need to understand this when you start Part 7 in The New Nine-Note Recorder Method.
Or you may think of this meter as having two beats in a measure with the dotted quarter
note getting the beat.Recite the rhyme “Humpty Dumpty.” It’s in six-eight time. Click the note to hear “Humpty Dumpty.” Say the words to the rhyme as you listen. Slap your leg when you say the words
in bold.
Hump -ty Dump-ty sat on a wall. Hump-ty Dump-ty had a great fall. All the king’s
hors-es and all the king’s men Could -n’t put Hump-ty to-geth-er a-gain.
Now listen to the rhythm at the top of this page again. This time slap your leg when you say number 1 and number 4. Click here to see and hear a song with this rhythm. Then you may go to Lesson 5. |
