You will learn this rhythm in Part 4 of The New Nine-Note Recorder Method. This is an eighth note. Eighth notes get one half of a beat.
Here two eighth notes are joined together by a flag across the top.
Listen to the rhythm below by clicking on the large note at the side. Slap and count this rhythm as you listen to it. You should say the number when you slap your leg;
you should say “and ” when your hand is in the air. Listen again to see if you clapped the rhythm correctly.
This example doesn’t have numbers in the time signature.
Instead it has a “C” which stands for common time. The most common time signature is 4/4 time so it may be abbreviated as shown. Measures are units between the vertical lines, called bar lines.
