This is an eighth note. Eighth notes get half of a beat.

Here two eighth notes are joined together by a flag across the top.

Listen to the rhythm pictured below. Slap and count as you listen to it.
You should say the number when you slap your leg or tap your foot on the number; the “and” is on the upbeat.

This song doesn't have numbers in the time signature. Instead, the C stands for common time.
The most common meter is 4/4 time so this is another way to show that there are 4 beats in each measure.
